Writers Can Read: Crystal Wilkinson & Ron Davis

February 20

Empire Books and News | Pullman Square | 3rd Ave & 10th St

7 pm

Each month Empire Books and News holds a night to celebrate the literary arts and the love of reading featuring published authors reading their own works and unpublished authors trying out something they’ve penned.

Crystal Wilkinson and her partner, artist Ronald Davis, are the founders and editors of the briefly published Mythium: A Journal of Contemporary Literature, a journal that celebrated writers of color and other cultural voices. Today they are co-owners of Wild Fig Books and Coffee in Lexington, Kentucky. Wilkinson is the winner of numerous awards and fellowships for her work in literature and poetry including the 2016 Ernest J. Gaines, 2008 Denny Plattner and 2002 Chaffin Awards. Ron Davis is a poet and a Kentucky Al Smith Award winning visual artist.  His artwork, under the moniker of “upfromsumdirt”, has been featured in New Southerner, Nat Creole Magazine, and on the covers of African American Review and various other book and cd covers.

Anyone attending can share a short 10-15 minute piece of writing with the audience during the "open mic" portion of the event (which takes place following the featured readers). The event is free and open to the public. Refreshments will be provided.
