2 pm

The Cabell County Public Library will present an exploration of the opera "La Traviata" by Italian composer Giuseppe Verdi. The Cabell County Public Library will host a four-part series moderated by opera enthusiast Lou Capaldini to introduce attendees to Verdi's opera, which tells the tale of Violetta Valery, a courtesan who feels she will die soon, exhausted by her restless life.

The exploration series begins with an in-depth look at Act One at 2 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 19, in which Capaldini asks, "Why Music Anyway?" This will be followed by a look at Act Two in which Capaldini answers the question, "Opera: What's In It For Me?" at 2 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 26. Then, the exploration of Act Three, set for 2 p.m. Sunday, March 5, wraps up the series while discussing the emotional ending of "La Traviata."

The four-part series culminates with a viewing of the live HD broadcast of the Metropolitan Opera's production of "La Traviata" starring Sonya Yoncheva, Michael Fabiano and Thomas Hampson at the Cinemark Theater in the Huntington Mall at 12:55 p.m. Saturday, March 11.

This Opera Exploration Series hosted by the Cabell County Public Library is free and open to the public.
